Species common name and class were standardized and corrected in North Carolina and Maryland HMS catch card data. There were a total of 761 records updated for shark species including Atlantic Sharpnose, Bull, Common Thresher, and Shortfin Mako, as well as Roundscale Spearfish and Atlantic Bluefin Tuna.

This update does NOT impact LPS or MRIP estimates. We advise rerunning HMS catch card queries run prior to this update.

• New information is available in our Survey Datasets: Unadjusted catch counts for all catch types (CLAIM_UNADJ, HARVEST_UNADJ, RELEASE_UNADJ). **These fields are being added for informational purposes only. Estimates produced using these fields will not match those available from the website.
• Issues have been corrected with variables identifying cases where revised small sample estimates are available. This change impacts only 2013-2015 in the state and mode of fishing identified in the 8/15/2016 update to estimates.

Directed Trip Query

The MRIP Directed Trip Query was updated on 10/20/2015 to address an issue with estimates produced when selecting a single area of fishing AND multiple species options.

Changes are limited only to Directed Trip queries that specified both 1) A single area of fishing and 2) Multiple species options.

We advise rerunning Directed Trip queries meeting these criteria that were run prior to this update.

The Directed Trip Query and Domain_Directed_Trips.sas template program were updated to account for an issue recently detected in cases where grouped catch was included in the criteria to define directed trip domains.

TRIP Survey Data

Trip_YYYYW survey data for 2004-2006 were reposted to correct for inadvertently missing data elements in some records for CH and HB modes, 2004-2006 waves 2-6 only, Mid-Atlantic and North Atlantic sub-regions.

The only estimates impacted by this change are directed trip estimates based on target species for the above years, modes, and sub-regions.

The Directed Trip Query and Domain_Directed_Trip.sas template programs were updated to better represent directed effort estimates where grouped catch was recorded.

The new MRIP Access-Point Angler Intercept Survey design was implemented in Puerto Rico beginning in Wave 1, 2014.  Catch and effort estimates are now produced using the same MRIP estimation methodology used on the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.
