Video – Fisheries in the Northwest Atlantic Large Marine Ecosystem

The Northwest Atlantic Ecosystem spans from North Carolina to Nova Scotia. In 2010, U.S. commercial fishermen landed 1.4 billion pounds of fish and earned $1.5 billion in landings revenue from this ecosystem. Successfully managing these marine species in today’s busy ocean requires us to understand the entire ecosystem and suite of impacts on their survival.

This video describes some of the key or “hero” species within this ecosystem, as well as common stressors to these and other species. This video is also an example of a visualization tool that NOAA Fisheries has developed to better communicate the framework and findings of ecosystem models.
