The Potter Cove Time Series was started in 1991 on King George Island to analyze the dynamics of coastal hydrography in a shallow glacial cove (max. depth 100 m) strongly influenced by meltwater during summer melt seasons. The local Fourcade glacier is completely land locked since 2016, but meltwater streams continue to transport eroded sediments into coastal surface waters, changing the light climate and bloom dynamics, and strongly affecting benthic community structure. The Potter Cove series (62 23 S, 58 67 W) consists of biweekly (summer) to nearly-monthly (winter) CTD casts at an "Inner Site" (1) and an "Outer Site" (2) cove station, 2 km apart and separated by a glacial advance moraine, and an external station in the mouth of the Cove in Maxwell Bay. Water samples are collected at different depths between 0-10m and 10-50m to measure suspended particle, chlorophyll concentrations. A sea ice camera was installed in 2009 taking daily pictures of the inner cove sea ice coverage.
