NMFS Office of Science & Technology   |   Marine Ecosystems Division   <-- back to previous page -- Sampling Metadata   <-  ECOSAR II (Data Summary)   <-  COPEPOD: The Global Plankton Database     SAMPLING METADATA Sampling and Processing Summary Oblique hauls were made using Bongo samplers of 60 cm mouth diameter, fitted with 300 micrometer mesh nets.   Maximum sampling depth was 215 meters or 5 meters above the bottom in shallower areas.   A calibrated flowmeter was attached to the nets to measure the volume of water filtered.   Samples were preserved in 4% borax buffered formalin after collection.
