The Science Information Division developed
a Species
Information System (SIS) to serve as a data analysis
and archiving tool
containing species information across NOAA Fisheries
program
offices. This application will provide
users with
Web-enabled data entry, retrieval, and reporting
capabilities for
fisheries analysis and evaluation.
Marine Fisheries
Stock Assessment Improvement Plan Application (SAIP),
which is an enhancement of Species Information
System. SAIP
serves
as an important tool to
- report agency performance
measures.
- improve the Information Technology (IT)
infrastructure and business processes within Headquarters
(HQ)
Offices.
- SAIP provides an analysis of three major categories
of information required as input to stock assessments
- catch,
- abundance, and
- life history.
- These categories
are assigned various levels of completeness
and availability
and are used to derive an overall ranking
for the quality and sophistication of an assessment
relative
to a stock/run. With the addition of assessment
frequency, an evaluation of the monitoring
program associated
for a particular stock/run is available.
By
connecting this information to the SIS database’s
existing report metrics, a complete picture
of not only
stock/run status, but also how well these
stock/runs are being
monitored can be ascertained.
Additional
phase was the development of OLO. The Our
Living Oceans-Resources (OLO-R) component
of the Species Information System will archive and
support real-time updates to the OLO-R database and controlled-access
for regional stock assessment coordinators
and headquarters staff. On-demand web-based capability for national
and regional reports will be supported
as well as downloadable spreadsheet files for other
uses.
