The Third Biennial International Fisheries Observer Conference will be held November 18-21, 2002, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

The objective of the International Fisheries Observer Conference is to bring together a broad representation from the international fisheries and observer communities to address some of the key issues common to observer programs. The conference will provide a platform for facilitated discussion of the role of observer programs as management, compliance, and scientific programs, and the current applications, limitations, and future uses of observers at sea.

The major themes of the conference will be developed through the presentation of papers, panel discussions with open forum discussion format, a call for questions/issues discussion session(s) and posters. The conference focus will include issues related to data collection and usage, observer safety, training and support, program compliance objectives, and fishing industry concerns.

The conference is being sponsored by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries), in cooperation with the Canada Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
