Oblique hauls were made using Bongo samplers of 60 cm mouth diameter, fitted with 300 micrometer mesh nets.   Maximum sampling depth was 215 meters or 5 meters above the bottom in shallower areas.   A calibrated flowmeter was attached to the nets to measure the volume of water filtered.   Samples were preserved in 4% borax buffered formalin after collection.
