Vertical samples were collected with a standard depth of 200 meters to the surface using a standard two meter long plankton neter with a mouth-opening of 45 cm (diameter) and 65 micrometer mesh net (nylon bolting cloth #25, Monyl-Zurich Bolting Cloth Mfg. Co. Ltd.)

Horizontal samples used a 300 micrometer mesh net (nylon bolting cloth #3, same company). The horizontal haul was carried out for 15 minutes.
