The Cudillero transect is part of the time-series program RADIALES (Instituto Español de Oceanografiía). Station 2 of the Cudillero transect, used for this site summary, is located off the North Iberian coast (43.70 B, 6.15 W). Zooplankton samples were collected from 50 m to surface (double-oblique hauls) on a monthly basis with a WP-2 net (40 cm diameter) fitted with a 200 µm mesh. Samples were preserved in 4% formalin in sodium borate-buffered seawater and then examined in the laboratory for identification and counting of mesozooplankton by rarefaction method (Omori and Ikeda, 1984). Biomass was calculated as dry weight (Lovegrove 1962) in the laboratory after 2 months of preservation.
